LAS VEGAS, NV – January 24, 2011 – The Society of Consulting Psychology will hold its Mid Winter Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada to explore how organizational consultants create value for their clients through the use of applied behavioral science in change and learning. The conference will run from January 27th thru January 30th and will be held at the Wynn Las Vegas.
The mid-winter conference is open to the public and will feature keynotes, workshops and discussions of consulting psychology as it is applied in business, non profits, education and other fields of interest. Consulting psychologists will gather in Las Vegas to hear from keynote speakers that will cover such topics as how social technology is changing the way we do business; a network view of the generation and use of organizational knowledge; methods for understanding how to drive culture change in global organizations; and a model for transforming the workplace through key relationships.
John Byrne, CEO of C-Change Media, will kick off the keynotes on Friday with an exploration of the implications of technology-assisted business relationships and what we can learn from disruptive business models and the disrupters themselves. Futurists predicted that computers would breed a race of skeptics, says Byrne, but what we see today is that we trust more than ever, in social networks, in business partners and clients, and in brands. Anyone with a value to bring to the table can now work with people around the world, says Byrne. The Internet extends to everyone a global marketplace and a dramatically reduced cost of going global for small business people.
Dan Denison, professor and co-founder, Denison Consulting, will share experiences of working with global businesses and multi-cultural organizations. What should consulting psychologists take along for the trip and what should they leave behind? Dan will explain.
Chip Conley, CEO, Joie de Vivre Hospitality, will share his formula for transforming the workplace by taking care of three key audiences, and Susan Mohrman, Professor, Center for Effective Organizations, University of Southern California, will talk about how organizational knowledge can be generated and put to use.
Other conference sessions and workshops will focus on such topics as accelerating executive development, developing high potential leaders, and the leadership pipeline; coaching women as senior executives, executive coaching and coaching big egos; how to break into consulting; leveraging organizational culture; organizational diagnosis, and ethics in consulting psychology. For a more comprehensive listing of conference workshops and sessions please go to the Society’s web site at http://div13.org/index.php/eventsconference.
In keeping with the tradition of the Society of Consulting Psychology, speakers will include practitioners, business leaders and clients, academics and researchers, and those from disciplines other than psychology. Attendees will benefit from a wide range of viewpoints and best practices for advising clients on how to lead and plan for a successful future.
Corporate sponsors for this year’s conference include Leadership Worth Following, RHR International, CPP, IPAT, and Alliant International University. The Society of Consulting Psychology is a division of the American Psychological Association. Services offered by consulting psychologists include individual and organizational assessments, organization design, executive selection and development, executive coaching, change leadership, succession planning, strategy development, cultural assessment and alignment, and team building.
As I vividly recall from a business class, most small businesses fail because of poor cash management. When times are good, put the money away, and never buy expensive items for personal use. When times are tight, put the money to use when goods and services are cheap, and the extra cash on hand comes in use to stay afloat. Basically counter cycle to the economy.
